Overview & Tour Video

When Saint Patrick first came to Ireland in the 5th century AD, he encountered the Celtic people – with their flourishing spiritual tradition, already thousands of years old. The Celts found divinity all around them: in rivers and hills, the sea and sky, and in every kind of animal. The Celtic reverence for the spirit in all things, and their celebration of the continuous mysteries of everyday existence survives to this day.

Our 2020 Samhain Pilgrimage is the perfect way to close our 10th Anniversary! With this unique 11-day tour you will not only visit many of the places we bring our guests on Our Best of the Wild West tour, but you will have the opportunity with our guides and friends to gently explore Celtic Wisdom and Spirituality, joyfully through ritual, music, poetry, meditation, yoga, healthy food, contemplative walks, creative expression, hiking, and experiencing the sacred sites of Celtic Ireland.

Tour Highlights

The Burren is a landscape so surreal and old that it seems you are walking the surface of another planet. In it you will explore megalithic sites, holy wells, ancient forts, church ruins, unique places of myths and legends, and it’s beautiful and dramatic nature.

We visit the majestic Cliffs of Moher! We not only take in the Cliffs, which have an incredible museum nearby, but also have the option to experience the mighty Cliffs of Moher by sea! We head to Doolin and take a cruise and look up at the cliffs after having looked all the way down!

This sacred ground was chosen for devotion and solitude, a place of pilgrimage for those seeking wisdom.

You will walk into the wilderness of the Burren, taking sight of its mountains, feeling the wind whistle, and listening to the waters flow. Experiencing things first hand focuses the senses and revitalizes the spirit.

Ashleigh Falls, a beautiful waterfall, where you will be able to stroll along the river.

You will find yourself walking in solitude through the valleys under Diarmuid and Grainne’s watchful eye. You may find in the soft moan of the wind and the Winter mists a raw and new power of freedom and the feeling of belonging to something greater.

We visit Ireland’s largest cemetery of megalithic tombs in Ireland, over five thousand years old, among the country’s oldest. This spectacular “thin place” is known as Carrowmore Tombs. These prehistoric places pre-date the Pyramids and the scenery surrounding them is just startling.

We visit a sacred Megalithic Stone Circle and places where we can find remains of 6th Century monastic ruins, High Crosses with inscribed Celtic Art, and Holy Wells.

Today we cross the River Foyle at Greencastle and make landfall at Magilligan Point, in County Derry. The Antrim Coast is one of the most spectacular places in the world. On a clear day we can look across to see the Western Isles of Scotland as we visit the towns of Portstewart and Portrush on our way to the iconic Giant’s Causeway.

We can spend as much time as you like here taking in one of Nature’s miracles. Not far down the road we have a visit to Dunluce Castle in store for you.

Sample Itinerary

On our first day

We give you a warm Céad Míle Fáilte(100 thousand welcomes) in Dublin at the airport or your hotel near Dublin Airport if you have arrived early for your Wild West Irish Tour. We whisk you away across the River Shannon and into the “Wild West of Ireland”, onto pristine County Clare, where you will be staying for the first three nights in a lovely thatched B&B near the sea.

Days 2 – 4:    County Clare

You will experience three days of inspirational walks by the ocean, in a forest, through the Burren, and along the riverside with our local “Coisceim Anama” guide. You will walk the steps of the ancient Celts, paths walked in later times by Irish monks and mystical philosophers, to these very sacred grounds.

Day 4 – On our way to Sligo

We set our sights on the “Land of Heart’s Desire” of County Sligo via the hills of Connemara, County Galway and County Mayo. We visit the beautiful Ashleigh Falls located on the Mayo/Galway border, the village of Leenane and the wondrous Killary Fjord.

In Mayo you see the incredible vistas and landscapes of Doolough Pass. Before leaving Mayo, we look up and see where St. Patrick himself lived for 40 days and nights up on Croagh Patrick.

Days 5 – 7 Sligo & Leitrim

You are introduced to local guides, storytellers, myth keepers, poets, musicians and artists as we explore Celtic spirituality, wisdom and thought, through inspirational walks, creative expression, music, dance, and many other ways, with our wise woman shaman.

You will find yourself walking in solitude through the valleys under Diarmuid and Grainne’s watchful eye.

We visit Ireland’s largest cemetery of megalithic tombs in Ireland, over five thousand years old, among the country’s oldest. This spectacular “thin place” is known as Carrowmore Tombs.

We end a day with a quiet walk at a holy well which has myths and legends associated with it from pre-Christian times and since St. Patrick visited the island.

Day 7:   On our way to Donegal & the Inishowen Peninsula

We leave Sligo and head north towards the highest sea cliffs in all of Europe – Slieve League (which is three times higher than the Cliffs of Moher). Overlooking Donegal Bay we see the most majestic and moving sights in all of Ireland.

We will make a stop to see Kathleen, a knitting lady of the old school, who makes Aran Sweaters in her home!

We will travel through Glengesh Pass on our way to the incredible Grianan an Aileach, a 3000 years old megalithic fort overlooking Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle.

We arrive at our lovely B&B on the Inishowen peninsula.

Days 8 – 10:   Donegal & the Inishowen Peninsula

You will be introduced to the mystical Inishowen, visiting a sacred Megalithic Stone Circle and places where we can find remains of 6th Century monastic ruins, High Crosses with inscribed Celtic Art, Holy Wells and places our local friend leader brings us to. We can still find the old thatched cottages in Inishowen and with each of them comes many lively stories. We hear tales of Cursing Stones and shipwrecks, poteen makers and smugglers!

We will take you north along the west coast of Inishowen to experience the mystical Mamore Gap where the panoramic views are nothing short of majestic. We know where to find the hidden treasures, including an incredible castle ruin along the coast. We continue our journey to the Isle of Doagh where we explore places not even found on Google!

We will visit the Carndonagh High Cross, one of the earliest and most important ones on the island. We head north to Malin Head, the northernmost point of Ireland, and also the site of some Star Wars filming!

On one evening, we will treat you to an intimate performance of traditional Irish music in an Inishowen home. Top musicians will perform traditional music of the area served with a home cooked meal of the finest Donegal produce.
